I really loved the parts of Europe that I've been to. I think one of the best things about the USA is that hardly any 2 states look alike. You've got Blue Ridge Mts. (here), the Appalachian Mts., the beautiful Rocky Mts. out west, the stunning beauty of Hawaii, the Grand Canyon in Arizona, all of the different National Parks, all of the different cities, the wilderness of Alaska, and beaches in California, Virginia, Florida, etc. Also, there are climates to suit everyone. One of my favorite things about the places I've been in Europe has got to be all of the history...the old right beside the new. It felt so strange to see the Coliseum and all of the ruins right beside the Highway. I made sure that I studied about each place we went when I came home, and created a Memory Book with history as well as pictures. There are so many more places I want to go before I die...I just hope we will have the resources to go to at least some of them. I haven't even been to all of the United States yet (which I assume is true for most Americans).

The Brooklyn Botanic Garden's 26th annual cherry blossom festival.

Each year the Brooklyn Botanic Garden celebrates Japanese culture with the Cherry Blossom Festival or Sakura Matsuri. This year's two-day Sakura Matsuri festival featured Taiko drumming and acrobats, haiku poetry reading, a Samurai drama performance and demonstrations of origami paper folding, Mataro Ningyo doll making and "sushi" pillow making.

Here are a few pictures.

@atalley You are absolutely right about the coexistence of old and new. I once lived in Rome, Italy for a while and what bothered me the most was all the graffiti on those old monuments which have survived thousands of years of war and erosion. Unfortunately many historical places are now in poor conditions because of vandals and lack of government funding. Luckily, smaller cities such as Venice and Florence try to keep their historic places in better conditions. I hope people will come to their senses and save whatever is left for future generations.

I totally agree with you Galinab, unfortunately both government and stupid people don't care about the precious legacy that great artists from the past have left to us. Same problem is for my town, which is said to have one of the biggest historical centres in Europe, and many parts of it are in total degradation.

...and thanks a lot for the pics the Cherry Blossom Festival must be beautiful!

Beautiful pictures of the Cherry Blossom Festival! I don't remember a lot of grafitti and mess in Rome, but the "balcony of Romeo & Juliet" and surrounding area in Verona was disgusting. I think I heard where they were cleaning the place up.

LOL! I know I came here right from there I like this "treasure hunt" idea Thanks for the pics

Here are some pics I took last week at "Cinque Terre", it's a place not far from my town, where you have a long walk through 5 small villages on the sea...it's really picturesque, I've loved it

This is a place where lovers and friends make promises and leave colored ribbons or padlocks there as a sign they will keep them forever

OMG! I love Italy! I want to live there sometimes! Such beautiful country!

This is the view I have, unfortunately I don't have a view of the mountains from this side.

This is at the boat ramp, not a great patch of beach but anyway...

This is the mountain we had to climb and pics from the top, it was so freakin' steep, we had to hold trees so we didn't fall, very safe, climb huge rocks and go through patches of scratchy bushes. We were so sunburnt and were covered in cuts by the end it was unbelievable. It took us about 4 hours to get to the top and then another 4 to get down but then my group got lost so we just kept walking which was a great idea considering most people were out of water and no one had a factual clue as to which direction to go. We had to use a massive walky talky to phone base camp and then while they drove around looking for us we had to keep yelling until we were heard. It was a death march. We just kept walking and walking, we ended up walking 12km instead of the 7 we were supposed to have done. Which is about 7 miiles for anyone who uses the imperial.

Outofyogurt...Woah, that's a scary story! Gotta ask...where do you live? How old are you (you look quite young). What kind of group were you with, and how many? Was anyone familiar with the area? This is a story that you'll be telling to your grandkids. I am so thankful that everyone made it out safe. It could have been a very bad ending. On a lighter note, good pics!

Also, I love this thread, and hope it gets going again!

It was a school camp, we had about 20 people and afew teachers, I was 14. I live in Australia and I live in the country anyway but that's bush, outback country. So there were a lot of kangaroos around!
I think we worked out later that someone had mucked around with the trail because there were pink ribbons tied around trees every so often and one must have lead us off the wrong way.
We were worried it was going to get dark before we were found and also very cold.

if htere's anything else you want to know just ask, hope I covered everything.

There were plenty of chances for us to fall off. Just in that photo even. ^^
We tried to throw rocks off and count the seconds until we heard it hit the ground, couldn't hear anything. I was so tired I could've just rolled off.

My friend pretending to be hanging off the mountain.

My friend again when we got back, no we've never heard of sunscreen!

Here's some more pics, they're quite breathtaking.
(the dates are all wrong, this was november last year)
Nearly at the top, we had lunch up where the red circle is.

The bottom picture looks scary - it almost looks like something I've been up recently - but being England it was a lot greener - at the top I found a stoneage flint

I'm glad you made it back before dark. I would guess by looking at your sunburn that it was very hot. I dream of going to Australia someday, but I don't know if it will happen. (I've been to places that I never dreamed of seeing, so anything is possible).
