i agree, we get questions about his taste in music and this playlist he's suppose to have at his ipod (or whatever he use).

i don't think we need that here at the community since it's already at the frontpage of IHJ : www.iheartjake.com/jake.htm (if it's the right adress).

anywho, great FAQ so far, ally! i think the threads about these questions will stop for a while soon.

Yeah, I know, but still. There are some people who might still ask, and it's not like it would hurt anyone, now would it?

Great idea, Ally! And I agree with Ciarra: it would be good to have some basic stats, like birthdate and age, immediate family, education, etc. Does he have grandparents living? I read in an interview that Jake had a "bah" mitzvah (the real thing is a "bar" mitzvah) in a homeless shelter.

I keep wondering how TALL Jake is. There's a bio of him somewhere that says he's 6 feet, and that seems reasonable. He looks tall because he's long-limbed--and sister Maggie is quite tall as well. I also wonder whether Jake's high school was co-ed, and did he have a girlfriend then? Does he play a musical instrument? He was the lead singer in the band Hole Shot but did he play guitar too?

" I noticed that he smokes in Highway and Brokeback, so I put two and two together." [fallonized]

He also smokes one cigarette in the last scene of "Jarhead." Actors are probably more likely to be smokers than people in most other professions, because few other employers would require you to smoke in order to be hired. Cigarettes are addictive enough that it would be hard to quit after the filming is finished, especially if you are young. David Strathairn, a nonsmoker, had to smoke 50 cigarettes a day in "Good night and good luck," because the character he was portraying (Edward R Murrow) had smoked heavily.

In a news article dated 6/1/04. Jake was asked how to quit smoking: "KIRSTEN Dunst and Jake Gyllenhaal at the trendy Mayle store on Elizabeth Street, where Gyllenhaal told platinum-blond model Morgan Sarnoff that working out a lot would help her quit smoking."

Jake has been working out heavily himself lately. No guarantees, but one can hope.

What are the board rules about quoting an article in a periodical? There's a nice little (250 words, I'd guess) piece on Jake in Southern California's Gay & Lesbian Times, 5/4/06. I don't know how to get it posted without simply typing it in....is it okay to do this?

You can scan the article and post it including the title of the newspaper/magazine and the date or you can type it out and include the title of the newspaper/mag, title of the article, date and author

From what I've read...they both had lovely backgrounds. Heath is very close to his mum and sisters and Jake certainly comes from a functional, loving family. A few rocks in the road? Probably, but overall, they were loved.

Jake has mentioned that his parents used to argue alot when he was younger. I'm not quite sure if that would qualify him to have a "rough backround" though. I think now that he's older he understands why his parents fought and he learned from that. When he was younger that must of been tough for him, its tough for any child to deal with. But his family seems pretty grounded and stable now
