Just saw the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, which has a roundup of all the movies to be released by year's end. Brothers is no where mentioned. That means it will be out of the running for the next Academy Awards. Is it still in post-production? (I can't imagine.) Or do producers (or distributors or other monied interests) lack confidence that it could be a contender?

Yeah, our newspaper listed movies coming out in Nov.-Jan. and Brothers was nowhere to be seen. I'm so disappointed. It would be nice to hear what's going on.

It seems like neither 'Brothers' nor 'Nailed' has gotten any recognition so far this year, even tho both movies have wrapped- which is kinda dumbfounding. Hopefully they won't be overlooked once they're released...

IMDb says, Brothers will premiere on December 4, 2008. But MovieInsider, and other movie related sites have nothing on Brothers for this year's releases. Also nothing for the 2009. I checked the Sony Pictures site. Zero, nada info... which is odd.

Seems that both Nailed and Brothers vanished into thin air. I wonder what is going on here. It's one big mystery now (sighs).

Thanks Vicky.

Gyllenbabble is a weblog where people express their thoughts, is it not? They only comment on what others might think is true. In a way, their guess is as good as ours. Don't get me wrong, I like this site. We need something more official though.

Well, the NY Times for Sunday 9/7 presents its calendar of all films scheduled to open from September through end of December, and Brothers is NOT included. Although the film could still be released in December as originally announced, I'd trust the Times's information. So I think we're looking at a release for Brothers in 09. Hope we don't have to wait too late into the year.

Whyyy?
I already wrote it on my calendar and I was so looking forward to a new Jake movie and promotion week!

I wonder why, though. I mean, it must be done by now, so why not release it? We already had PoP pushed back, why Brothers also? Hopefully we won't have to wait too long.. and we haven't really heard anything on Nailed either...

Yes! The NY Times is known to be a reliable newspaper. We can be sure that Brothers is pushed back till later. Not another year, I hope. That would be terrible.
The only reason for the delay I can think of, is the complicated filming of PoP. And.. Jake might not like to go public the way he looks now (with his hair, I mean). He can't have a haircut, as the filming will last till the end of December. Although he doesn't have to be on the set all the time, it's quite understandable that he would avoid going to a premiere looking like Prince Dastan in a tux.

There could be several reasons for the Brothers delay: 1) The film is weak and reshoots are needed; they'd have to wait till the stars were available, and apparently Jake wouldn't be till after PoP is finished. 2) The producers are afraid the film will get lost with all the strong competition from other year-end releases. 3) The film is so bad it's going straight to video. Scenario no. 2 is the one I prefer, but what do I know? It's just speculation.

Sheilah, somehow I don't think the state of Jake's hair would be an issue in doing press for Brothers. He had facial hair during the Rendition promotion, and his character in Rendition was clean-shaven. I'd say it was more a case of Jake's availability, given the PoP production schedule. Is it really true, that it goes to DECEMBER?

I have bad vibes on Nailed, chiefly because of the money troubles. There might not be enough financing to get the movie edited and then promoted and released. It might go straight to video, just to recoup some of the costs without spending big bucks on promoting the theatrical release.

With the absolute lack of any promotion for "Brothers" - no stills, no teaser or trailer, no buzz -and not being scheduled for any film festival we should try to getting used to the fact that the film is pushed back to 2009.

On the other hand they are doing test screenings - a user over at Gyllenbabble was in contact with someone who was at a test screening - for some reasons the person did not like the film (not political enough etc.) but said that the audience liked the film and especially Jake and Natalie.

And the film has already a distributor for Canada and the UK:

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117991563.html?categoryid=13&cs=1&query=Jim+Sheridan

"The deal with Relativity is for Canada and the U.K., and it includes "A Perfect Getaway," directed by David Twohy, starring Milla Jovovich; and "Brothers," directed by Jim Sheridan and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman and Tobey Maguire"

This is usually a good sign - many smaller or arthouse films are struggling to getting a distributor.

I really hope we get some official information on the release date soon.

I agree with Evie concerning "Nailed" - no big hopes here.

Jake seems to have not so much luck with his smaller films lately - but with the "Moon Project" and the "Joe Namath" biopic shootings next year and "Prince of Persia" I hope 2010 will be "his" year.....

Something else that strikes me strangely. A day or so ago the original movie of Brothers, made in 2004, was showing on the IFC channel, which I don't get, so I couldn't watch it. It was listed in TV Guide, which gave it 4 stars, their highest rating. The only cast member named was Connie Nielsen. I've seen her in other films (like The Devil's Advocate), and I thought she was American, but maybe she's Swedish, since the original movie is Swedish, I think.

Anyway, did anyone see it on TV? Did it have subtitles or was it dubbed? No matter--it seems odd to me that this film could play on American TV and an American version of it be made only 4 years afterward. It's as if the new one would be competing with the first one. Maybe that has something to do with the delayed release.
