Prince of Persia Screening Reaction @ ShoWest 2010

"This week I attended the ShoWest Convention in Las Vegas for the screening of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. I admit I was a bit nervous at first, being that the movie was based on a video game I admired.

The film does a great job of capturing the look and feel of the video game series. There are a lot of little homages to actual game play that I think will have many fans smiling in the movie theaters. The script expands on the original story of the first game and adds new characters, but it doesn’t veer far from the source. Some parts run long and feel dragged out, but I was told this is not the finished version of the film.

Jake Gyllenhaal does a great job as The Prince, I was so glad he never broke his accent like Taylor Kitsch as Gambit in X-MEN ORIGINS Wolverine. Gemma Arterton is smokin hot as Princess Tamina, but it is Alfred Molina who really steals the show as the slave turned Ostrich race mogul. I felt Ben Kingsley was drastically underused, being that he’s such an incredible actor and an important character.

I think the film’s weakest point, other than being too long, are the obvious dumb character choices that drags the film further. I doubt there are any last minute changes that can make this film better, other than shortening some scenes. The film wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t great either. I enjoyed it and was happy how the property was treated, it could have been worse, and it is no doubt in my mind that there will be sequels."

That's all I expect from Prince of Persia.

Prince of Persia Impressions

No spoilers:

"The action is big. The effects bigger. And the storyline just interesting enough to keep you watching. Gyllenhaal -- probably not anybody's first choice for the Prince of Persia; although, to be fair, he's a hard character to cast -- serves the role just fine. And Arterton has sex appeal to spare. This movie will surely be compared to Pirates of the Caribbean series and it shares much in common. Perhaps the only thing missing is the equivalent of Captain Jack Sparrow -- Johnny Depp's ludicrous, but unforgettable antihero. By comparison, Dastan and Tamina are straighter and side-players like Kingsley and Molina unremarkable. But the movie is well-produced and sparkling with polish from beginning to end, and we doubt any potential shortcomings will stop moviegoers from seeing it and doing their part in adding another notch to Bruckheimer's already-considerable blockbuster belt."

This 51 yr. old grandmother of 2 says "HE'S SMOKIN' HOT" in the interview!! I'm looking forward to seeing it, of course, but he'll always be Jack Twist to me. That movie changed a part of me forever.

my boyfriend thinks im ill because i talk to prince dastan in the game and i call him jake. like encourage him, even though im really encouraging myself.

haha whoops i meant to press reply but somehow i accidentally deleted the post
he DOES always have great hair!! even in jarhead when it is so short, he can still pull that off.

the hardest part about the video game is actually figuring out where to go, i think fighting the bad guys is fun though.
i cant waitttttt to see jake in the movie!!!!
